What is the Steinie bottle?
The “Steinie bottle” is a specific type of bottle widely used in the beer industry. It is a special form of beer bottles with a characteristic design, which is used in many countries and breweries. The name “Steinie” derives from the original use of stoneware (earthenware) for this type of bottle, although modern Steinie bottles are now usually made of glass.
Steinie bottle has a typical round or slightly bulbous shape. It is flat at the bottom and stands stably on a flat surface. The bottle tapers slightly toward the neck, which narrows toward the top and ends with an opening large enough to easily drink or pour the beer.
Traditionally, Steinie bottles were made of stoneware, but nowadays they are usually made of brown or green glass. This glass material protects the beer from harmful light and helps to preserve the quality and taste of beer.
Steinie bottles come in a variety of sizes, but a common standard size is 330 ml (about 11.2 ounces) for retail sales.
Steinie bottles are usually sealed with a crown cork to keep the beer fresh and carbonated. The crown cork is sealed on the neck of the bottle and can be easily pried off before opening.
The Steinie bottle is popular with brewers due to its classic design and practical shape, and is often used for various types of beer, including lager, ale, pilsner and others.
